"Everyone is telling me to prioritize self care but NOBODY is telling me how."
Apr 21, 2024
Ever find yourself frustrated with your inability to prioritize self care even though you desperately want to create a nourishing practice? Yeah babe, you're not alone.
After working with countless clients who have struggled to pencil in time for self care(including myself), you start to notice what works, where to start and what to avoid.
After putting together my notes and observations I have created a fool proof, bite sized guide for my girlies ready to say fuck yes to feeling good.
When devoting time to a self care practice or routine, its important to start small. That requires you to be realistic with your CURRENT habits and behaviors. You want to work with where you are at rather than completely going against the grain. Remember we want to create a practice that will stick - we don't want it to feel like jumping into an ice bath (although those have their perks too hehehe).
To meet yourself where you are at doesn't mean you're not stepping outside of your comfort zone. It means you recognize your behavior to avoid and overlook a self care practice. It allows you to notice when you are making excuses so you may get creative on ways to keep yourself dedicated.
Awareness is always the first step to creating any long lasting change.
"Okay Petra so whats the second step?"
My recommendation is to start with the basics, and i mean the literal BASE-ICS.
I am challenging you to focus on the root(base) chakra through a morning wake up self care ritual <3
The root(base) chakra governs the survival aspect of being human. The primal needs like food, water, shelter, safety and Earth energy.
I am a huge advocate for morning routines and self care rituals. These practices not only set the tone for the rest of your day but help reinforce positive self-worth. When you start your morning with intention you are more inclined to slow down and revisit mindfulness techniques throughout your day when you notice you're starting to speed up.
Here’s my easy to follow guide on how to begin your day with intention & ritual ↓
THE RITUALS:
01 → Make That Bed Babe!
02 → Fire Alchemy
03 → Hydrate
04 → Let The Sun Shine
05 → Organize
“Having a clear mind & a clear space allows you to think and act with purpose.” - Erika Oppenheimer
>> Your personal space symbolizes restoration and self care. It is a space to feel inspired as well as mentally, emotionally & spiritually clear.
This 5 step morning self care ritual can be complete in less than 15 minutes so you can still build a solid root chakra foundation even when you feel like you don't have any time <3
01 → Make That Bed Babe!
Making your bed is the physical representation of closing out your nourishing sleep cycle. It also initiates the beginning of your day by saying “hello world!”
02 → Fire Alchemy
Light a candle, burn an incense or cleanse your room with an herb of your choice. It is a part of my practice to light an incense with and set an intention for my day - fire assists to transform & alchemize energy that is no longer in service to your being.
03 → Hydrate
Your body just completed a fast over several hours while sleeping! Hydrate yourself by drinking at least 16 ounces of water. Drinking water when you wake up also assists in flushing out your stomach & bowels.
04 → Let The Sun Shine
Open your blinds, curtains & even windows if the weather permits! Invite in natural lighting as well as fresh outdoor air. The sun is essential for assisting our bodies with multiple functions as well as helping to increase positive mental health. Notice how the sun feels as it warms your skin or smell the fresh air, allow yourself to savor that moment.
05 → Organize
Take any dishes to the kitchen, place dirty clothes in your laundry bin & over all tidy up. I love to begin my day by organizing my space as it helps me invite in creativity & inspiration. Your future self will thank you when you come home to a clean space, TRUST ME...
>> I encourage you to stick to this short morning practice for a week and notice how you begin to feel.
This bite sized practice is best done when you immediately wake up. If you wait until after showering or eating it becomes more difficult to pull yourself back into a practice because mentally you've already began your day.
Again meet yourself where you are at! It is easier to immediately start your day with a morning practice as opposed to backing up when you've already started your sprint.
Happy energizing <3
